From what I understand it does come with GPS but it is disabled until you subscribe to the Telenav service.

Oh well, I don't feel like paying more money for GPS. I already pay a pretty penny to t-mobile on a monthly basis. I guess I'll just wait until the 8320 comes out in September.

yes but you can download and install Google Maps free of charge - it also seems to work quite well.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I'm using MapQuest Navigator on my 8800. Works really well while driving. It's free for the Sprint 8700. But how would they know??? Lol!

wait, I currently have the pearl and google maps, but i need to buy a GPS puck...

so what you are saying is that I can download google maps and used the GPS device installed on the phone without having to pay? That changes my perspectives again! Back to buying the 8800, adios to the 8320

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I don't believe tmo disables the gps in the 8800 because mine works. I've used GMaps and MapQuest Navigator. I love the voice directions from MapQuest!!!

If they don't then the info I was given was incorrect. I knew that Cingular's 8800 had no issues with GPS but had been told that T-Mobile's didn't work unless you activated Tele-Nav. I am actually for once glad my info was incorrect. I prefer to have the GPS work without having to pay a subscription.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~TMO does not disable the GPS. In fact u can use BB maps with it and get directions that will be tracked with GPS. It also has show me where I am option with sw. I have not used G Maps yet.

The Pearl does not have built in GPS. the 8800 does. the Pearl will always need the puck. Wherever you buy your 8800 from, it will have GPS. I bought mine used, it's a cingular branded phone, and I use it with T-Mobile, and I use Telenav, which works great. TMO doesn't disable GPS. they just don't offer or support any software that utilizes it. When I signed up for Telenav, I told them I had a Cingular 8800, because they won't recognize a TMO 8800.
