    Question SIM Contact Frustration

    hi all,

ive got this little anoying problem with my blackberry 8800. i successfully transferred all my contacts from my old simcard onto my blackberry. the provider i am with now offers a service called sim backup, which means that all my contacts get uploaded on the providers server, and should anything happen, i can just download them anytime OTA.

the problem now being, my contacts are all in the blackberry memory...not on my new simcard.

i found a function to download sim contacts into the BB adress book...but is there a way to copy all contacts ONTO the simcard ? i dont want to do it manually one by one, cause with over 100 numbers...this would take ages.

is there a simple way to do this ?

    Thanks

    Re: SIM Contact Frustration

At this time I have only known one way to copy from the address book to the sim card and that is one by one.

    Environment

    • BlackBerry® device
    • BlackBerry Device Software 4.0 and later

    Procedure

To copy a contact from your Address Book to your SIM phone book, complete the following steps:
Note: Only the contact's name and phone number will be copied to the SIM phone book.
    1. On the BlackBerry device Home screen, click the Address Book icon.
    2. Click the contact you wish to copy.
    3. Highlight the contact's phone number by holding the Shift key and rolling the trackball or scrolling the trackwheel.
    4. Display the menu and click Copy to SIM Phone Book.
    5. Display the menu and click Save.
    6. Press Escape to return to the Address Book.
    7. To view your SIM phone book, display the menu and click SIM Phone Book.
Note: If you receive the message Not enough room in SIM, delete the SMS messages on the Phone screen and delete the entries in the SIM phone book.

    Additional Info

To delete entries in the SIM phone book, complete the following steps:
    1. On the BlackBerry device Home screen, click the Address Book icon.
    2. Display the menu and click SIM Phone Book.
    3. To delete an entry, highlight it, display the menu, and then click Delete.
    4. When the Delete Phone Book Entry? message box appears, click Delete.

    Re: SIM Contact Frustration

Transfering all to the SIM Card at once is not possible. The reason for this is The SIM Card allows only one phone number per name. The Address book allows up to eight phone numbers per Contact. How would the BB now which one you wanted to associate with that name.

Sorry, but I think your out of luck

    Re: SIM Contact Frustration

Wish I could help you but I don't store contacts on the sim card anymore... I use Outlook which will sync to just about any GSM phone out these days someway or another.

The SIM card contact structure really needs to be overhauled, too many limitations.

Who is your service provider? I know that tmobile is offering that service but only with certain devices. Not all of them and I don't think that the 8800 will have it all. I've only known the blackberry to do a backup to the desktop. Also having the ability to synch with outlook. Also if you have a yahoo account and have yahoo go you can back up and restore contacts ota. I hope that helps. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

    Re: SIM Contact Frustration

There's no need for the SIM card backup since the SIM can only hold one name and one phone number per entry. Sync to Outlook or another PIM supported by Intellisync and you're covered (and that will back up email addresses, mailing addresses, and all other contact information that wouldn't be stored on the SIM anyway).
