Unless I'm missing something haven't just about every qwerty bb's been able to be reset this way? The alt+cap+delete worked on my 7520 and has always worked on my 8700. What am I missing here?

Well I didn't remember the security check, maybe they added a process or something. Don't remember I don't have to reboot that often.

Alt-Cap-Del is a "soft" reset. You need to do this twice for a hard reset. In some cases even Alt-Cap-Del twice won't do the trick and you'll need to pull the battery anyway.

Speaking about resetting the 8800, does anyone know if there is a way of backing up not only the data on the BB but also the actual configuration (such as theme and ring-tones, etc) before resetting it? I have the problem of the missed calls indicator that doesn't go away and it seems that the only way the get rid of it is by resetting the BB but since it has many personal configuration on it (such as also personal mail) I'd prefer not to reset it...

    Thanks for your help.

Hurray! Figured out how to do this on the 8830. Keys are:

    ALT
    Right SHIFT (not the left)
    DEL

Do it and it will reset your device. Do it twice and it offers an option in very tiny print to do a reset. This reclaimed a bunch of memory, without having to remove the battery.

I have the 8800 & did it twice but it only did the same reset twice without giving any options.
