The best thing I can say is to go to your provider and hold the 8800 and see if you prefer it. Go to http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/compare/ and drag and drop to compare the 8700g and 8800.

I appreciate your response.. I really do. I am somewhat concerned about the 88 not having the scroll wheel. I will go and hold it. Thank you

But< for 10.00 which would you rather have? And why?

I would go with the 8800. The trackball is very easy to learn to use. It acts just like a trackball used in a PC mouse. There have been reports of it feeling loose but most have not had that issue. I don't have the 8800 but there will probably be more users who have the 8800 come and give their input.

I loved the 8700 but like I said.. we are talking about 10.00 dollars here. I don't have the option og the curve. I appreciate all the help.

I love my 8700, but I'm planning on grabing the 8820, not the 8800, based on the absence of wifi alone. The multimedia will be nice, but not worth it alone.
I've played with the 8800 and it seems like it'll be a simple enough transition, and heck, a 10 difference is way worth it if you have to replace it anyway.

Your girlfriend threw your BB? I hope you are in the process of replacing her too not just the BB?

I would upgrade if you can. We can help you with anything you need to get used to the new device.

The GPS does come handy, but I had a 8700 and 8800 now, and I actually prefer my 8700, I mean 8800's keyboard just too closed together, when I type with 8800 I make too many mistakes.

For me the big difference is that the 8800 has an MP3/media player built-in. It currently holds 4 gig of music and is built to hold 32 gig of music. In addition to upgrading your BB to an 8800 I think you should upgrade to a new model of girlfriend.

I'd prefer the 8800. However, you have to realize that the keyboard and trackball are very subjective preferences and you'll need to determine for yourself where you stand on those.

As for the other features, you can compare models side-by-side at Blackberry.com to see if there are other reasons why the 8800 might be a compelling switch for you.

Go with the 8800. You will get use to the track ball and love it !

Had an 8700g (4.2 OS) and loved it. Really struggled with replacing it and finally settled on the 8800. No regrets. Very nice device. Is it infinitely better than the 8700? Not really. Just a matter of preference. I like GPS, form factor, trackball, and a few more added features. My wife has my 8700 so it is still around the house, but I have not looked back. Take the plunge for the $10 spot. Wish that's all my upgrade set me back! (I think the 8700g will always be my all-time favorite!)

Re: replace 8700 or get 8800

If the difference is $10, get the 8800. I loved my 8700, but got used to the 8800's trackball in a matter of a couple of days. I tend to think it's actually more efficient, and I was a traditionalist and hated to give up the wheel. The keyboard may take a little getting used to, but I always thought my 8700 keyboard was a little loose. The 8800 feels a little more solid to me. Plus, there's the MP3 capability and MicroSD slot.

Your girlfriend needs to understand, don't come between a guy and his BB!

Given your girlfriend's apparent dislike for your BB, perhaps you should base your decision on which model (8700 vs 8800) is more ruggedized, flushproof, acetone-proof, etc.
