| Phone quality 8800 vs Treo 650 Hello, I have spent hours searching the forums looking for one specific comparison. Phone quality BB vs Treo. I am referring quality, clarity of the phone portion only on the BB or treo. Let me explain; I have Cingular service and also have a Treo650. I can "get by" using the other features of the treo that I use but using it as a phone I definitely have issues with. As a phone I would rate it as C+/B-, but the outlook syncing, and e-mail work fine. I like a lot of what I'm reading about the BB8700 & anticipated 8800, but what I really want to know, how WELL does the phones compare to a treo. Again I'm referring to signal retention, sound quality and dropped calls. I would like to buy an 8800 when they come out, but not if I'll taking a step back regarding the phone portion of the device. Thanks in advance. Best regards Daryl |

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~8800 is not even out yet. But I will take 8800 over the treo.

Same here. I have a 7100t that is supposed to be lacking in phone quality. But I haven't seen any of the issues such as droppping calls, bad reception, low volume, etc. that others have seen with ths same model. I guess I was lucky, but this device made me a believer in BB. RIM's main attraction for me and I believe most others is their devices' reliability. I don't believe that they will overlook phone quality in what will be their flagship corporate model. |

I am on T-mo. Switched from Treo 600 (1 yr) to 650 (10 mo) to 8700g (4mo). Personally, I rate all three B+/A- phonewise. Was using SprintPCS and the coverage was really bad. YMMV. I believe signal retention, sound quality and dropped calls depend largely on carrier's coverage. Of course, some models are known for their quality issues (a friend's 7100 is always so bad that I always tell him that I will e-mail him instead lol). |

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ Daryl-MN, I can honostly tell you that my friend (who works at cingular,) says that 90 percent of treo sales that are sold (at her store mind you,) most always come back due to freezes, poor sound quality, or some sort of aggrevation with windows mobile or the palm os. I can say, from being a very short blackjack owner, windows mobile is impossible and highly irritating. I much prefer the bb interface! So to drag out an answer, yes, I think the bb has better voice and sound performance than the treos.

Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming. I spoke with my cingular sales rep at the local outlet again regarding the Treo/BB phone comparison. He said with out a doubt the BB is a far better phone (again ignoring all the other features that each have). I was just curious if general consensus is the same. Thanks again |

I too used a Treo on short stints with VZW and now have a 7130e and it's much, much more consistent on reception and stability. Mine hasn't dropped a call ever while in reasonable coverage. It's as good as my e815 was.

At this point I don't think you can compare the overall quality. I mean truthfully the Treo 650 has probably been the biggest PDA device out to date and there really hasn't been any problems with that device. But at this point its basically an out of date end of life device. I wouldn't reccomend the 650 to anyone at this point, and being that I'm a BlackBerry device I would lean more towards an 8700c or possibly the 8800 over even the new 680. Now if you wan't to compare the 8800 to the 750 then that's basically a whole 'nother story and it would simply just come down to user preference. |

Well when you think of how the 8800 is almost basicly an 8100 with no camera and a QWERTY keyboard, you hope that it'll be just as a good phone..Whereas the 650 was definetly not made to be a phone (eg: it drops call and has horrible speakers)..sure it's a good phone if you need a planner lol I don't think theirs much of a competition between the both. |

I just traded a 680 for a 8800 today. The call quality is the same or better. Thephone controls are better. I think even the kboard is better. I love the 8800. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ |

I currently have - 8700c - 7130c - 8100 - 8800. Regarding just the phone performance. The 8800 is far better than any mobile phone I have used. There is a significant improvement due to the noise cancelling system RIM is usong in this model. While I would rate both the 7130 & 8100 as very good with a slight edge going to the 7130. The 8800 is certainly the best. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ |
