    Question OS install headaches

Okay, I know that there's probably a thread for this somewhere else, but I can't seem to find it.; that and I'm lazy and don't feel like looking anymore.

That all being said, here is the issue: I have the latest (as of this writing) 4.5 OS installed on my computer, but when I run the desktop manager, there is no indication of a more recent OS installed on the computer. I know that I should just have to install the OS on the computer, then plug the BB into the computer while the DM is running, and things should take care of themselves from there. Not happening. (The version I downloaded was from Orange UK as the first one I downloaded from Cable & Wireless didn't want to for me.)

I also had to remove the password keeper from the BB device as it was giving me the wonderful "prepare to be locked out" speech. Thanks to the info I found here, I was able to avert that disaster!

But, as far as the OS update, now what??

Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader and delete a file called "vendor.xml". That will flag the DM that there is a new release to be installed.

OMG that's way too easy! Lol! Thanks!

EDIT: Or, that would be easy if the AppLoader was there...
EDIT2: Or if I looked in the right folder... oops....

LOL! You're welcome. Always need to do that if you're using a software release that isn't from your carrier. Might want to bookmark this thread:

So, the updated situation is that the upgrade has now gone off without a hitch, and everything seems to be working fine thanks to RoGro's expert advice! God I love pinstack!!

    OS 4.5 Upgrade???

Hello to all, I am new here.

This is my issue, I would love
to upgrade to 4.5 on my 8800, nto get the A2DP support and finally be able to use wireless headphones. However I am really worried that I might render my Blackberry useless.

I know how to do the upgrade. /The questions are:

    1) How risky is it? Can I reload my apps, will they work.
    2) Will BIS still work? I depend on it for work.
    3) I have what seems to be the latest version out there, 4.5.55.

    My carrier is TMobile.

I would appreciate any input as to risks, and what to expect.

    Thanks

    Welcome to PinStack, tantavevus!

    1. It has its risks, but thousands of people have done it. Plus you have a wealth of knowledge and support here on PinStack! Your 3rd party apps may or may not work, depending on what they are. You will most likely need to reinstall them.
    2. Yes, BIS will still work. You will probably want/have to go there and resend service books after the upgrade to get the HTML e-mails to start working.
    3. Sounds like you're on the right track!

Here's the instructions you'll need to get it going!

    Good luck!
