    Re: Noob Question

If by locked you mean locked to ATT SIM's only then yes they are all locked when new.

Unlocking is something that has to be done seperately but only if you plan on using another carrier with your ATT phone.

    1. I believe that they do.
    2. Go to Options/Advanced Options/SIM Card. Type mepd. If your network option doesn't say disabled. You're BB is locked.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Noob Question

Yes, all are locked, unless it says unlocked. Usually you will find unlocked devices on Ebay or amazon, or you can buy a locked one and get it unlocked.

To determine if your device is locked or unlock go to options, advance options, Sim Card, hold Alt then type in MEPE if a pop up comes up asking for an unlock code, then it's locked. No pop up means it's unlocked.

    OK followed your directions ...says

    Sim card: security disabled,

    SIM: disabled
    Network: Active
    Network Subset: Disabled
    Service provider: Disabled
    Corporate: Disabled

Does this mean that my phone can be used on a different carrier without having to get it unlocked?

    Appreciate the quick response !

If you bought it from AT&T (Cingular), just call their customer service number or email them to request they give you a subsidy unlock number. I've done both on two seperate occasions and I've gotten a quick (couple days) response from them. It's free.

FYI - GSM phones aren't activated. SIM's are.
