    Music Provider Compatible with BB

Using desktop 4.2, are there any music providers that provide access to music downloads that are compatible with the 8830? 8800 series?

itunes plus is DRM free but very limited in terms of selection. In fact, only 2% of my purchased itune songs are available in itunes plus.

I think it has to be mp3 but not sure. I don't have music on my BB since I have an iPod for that. Probably should check the user manual for the proper format.

The format is not enough information because some companies still have put the DRM on their software.

    Not that simple.

Have you tried burning your music to cd's and then ripping them to mp3 form? I do that or just rip from cd's I already own and they work fine in my 8800. I know it's extra work tho.

Well Blackberry curve has an deal with emusic.

Even if not compatible, is there a workaround? It is a bit disappointing.

I see they have these DRM removal products also.

What type of CD do you use? I see this is as a last resort.

    Are you burning your itunes?

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I know this is a last ditch thing but if you have a rewritable cd. You can burn your iTunes music onto it and then rip it back to iTunes. This will remove the DRM lock plus you are not wasteing a cd everytime you do it. The 8800 will read a m4a that iTunes makes.

Since when do MP3's support DRM?? It really is that simple if you stick to the MP3 format. It's just when you try using other formats that you need to worry about DRM.

Btw, the Blackberry Knowledgebase is a useful and underutilized resource. If you want to use a music provider (or even if you're converting files on your own) then make sure that their music meets these requirements:

The latest desktop manager update includes Roxio for Blackberry... that allows you to convert your music automatically to a format that your bb will recognize. if you are a cingular customer just go to cingular.com/support. Thats what I did and it works fine. If you aren't cingular (now at&t) customer, then perhaps your carrier will have the new updates.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~eMusic is my current favorite. Downloaded the new Paul McCartney "Memory Almost Full" album there for under $4. Tons of other great stuff there.
