I have an unlock code for my BB 8800 but my MEP Code has "0 tries left". Does anyone know how to reset this counter? I've tried "wipe handheld" but it still has 0 tries. Please HELP!!!!

    Re: MEP Code

For the Blackberry Pearl, I did a hard reset and that reset the unlock counter. You could try it with your phone.

Otherwise, maybe a firmware upgrade/downgrade might do the trick? Keep us posted.

When you say hard reset is that the same as "wipe handheld"? I've done that and it didn't reset the counter. Could you give me instructions on how to upgrade/downgrade the firmware? Your quick response is appreciated!

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

By hard reset, he may be referring to removing the battery for a short period, and reinsterting the battery into the device. "Hard reset" seems to be given so many different definitions, when it comes to BlackBerrys. I hope you get the issue resolved - in order to do a handheld firmware update or downgrade, download the desired firmware from your carriers website and then use JL_cmdr to wipe the device clean of an OS. Then install the file your carrier provided onto your computer, run the desktop manager and choose application loader. The desktop manager should then ask if you want to install the firmware, choose yes and you're done.

I just want to verify, you wiped the phone using this procedure:

    1. Go to Options
    2. Select Security Options
    3. Select General Settings
    4. Click the Menu key5. Select Wipe Handheld
    6. Click Continue
    7. Type in the word blackberry

Apparently Alt + Cap + Del done twice in a row will also Hard reset.

I don't think you can reset the unlock counter can you?

I was under the impression that once that is down to zero you cannot change that.

Let us know how you make out though.
