    LED indicator

This is my first Blackberry - an 8800. I just got it Friday so I've still got a lot of options and features to learn!

I've got this red LED indicator showing up from time to time and I'm having problems figuring out what exactly it is trying to tell me.

Using the Normal profile where the Repeat Notification is enabled will cause the blinking (as all the other options are set to None) are:

Mail by Google - New Mail
    Messages
Messenger - New Message (I believe this is my NimBuzz)
    Phone
    SMS Text
    Tasks

I can't seem to find a pattern on when it shows up or not and it will only go away after a short while (a good 15m+). I've noticed that messages, the GMail app phone and tasks all have a visual notification. The NimBuzz I have to open and look for myself. I've checked each of these things several times over to make sure nothing new has arrived.

This whole thing has happened three or four times that I've noticed since Sunday. The last thing I installed was a theme (which I'm not using) late Saturday.

I've disabled the coverage light indicator, too. That was one annoying little bastard...

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look to help me figure out why this light is coming on and trying to tell me something?

Great community we have here, hopefully this is a good first post on a first thread =)

you can turn this off by going to profiles > advanced > menu key to edit the profile you want > select what action (message, phone, etc.) > turn "Repeat Notification" off.

    No more blinky.

oh, and welcome to Pinstack as well

    Re: LED indicator

Thank you for the welcoming! I've been looking at getting a BB for quite a long time and I figured Christmas would be a good time to buy one =)

If the red LED indicates new messages, why does it continue to flash even though I've read all the messages and specifically marked them as read if I had not actually opened them?

I'm positive I've gone through every single app that I get a message from and confirmed there are no new messages. Not to mention this again, but the LED does stop blinking on its own after some time!

I've done that with the exception of the list of things in my first post. Still, with only those making it blink and verifying there are no new messages, it continues to blink =/

AT&T and I have been battling to get my Internet access to stay on - I'm having problems with that.

I've pulled the battery probably a dozen times, but I'm trying another battery pull.

I'll start specifically remembering what happens before it appears again and report back!

unfortunately, you may have defective device. It happens sometimes. Just tell AT&T you want a warranty replacment.

    Re: LED indicator

I was afraid of that - another reason being the Internet access works for a while (sometimes minutes, sometimes a good part of the day) and then just cuts out until I reenable the radio. I've called them probably a half dozen times since Friday =(

Does anyone know where to look to do a full backup? I have custom applications and all kinds of settings that I'd like to keep. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as migrating phones? I did notice there is a "Switch Device Wizard" - can anyone tell me if this will include everything I'm after? Will I need to do a second kind of backup to get any kind of remaining data?

Thanks for the information so far everyone!

    Re: LED indicator

The device transfer will only work if you have both phones available and sometimes even
then not all info is transferred but must be restored manually.
What you need to do is a complete backup of your device using DM and try to use restore when
you get the new device and see if your settings will go over to the new device.

    Re: LED indicator

First of all they will give me the new phone before I send this one back. I can not be without a phone.

Secondly, by DM I'm assuming you mean the Blackberry Desktop Manager. Just selecting the "Backup and Restore" option will get me anything and everything off and on the phones, correct? This includes settings, address book, old messages, custom applicatinos, etc. right?

    Re: LED indicator

    Excellent!

This would also be a good thing to do every weekend then too in case my phone disappears (stolen, broken, dives for the toilet, etc) then. Just what I was looking for!

I've been quite impressed at how well Blackberry's software and hardware all operates. They've quite obviously done their research!
