    Issue downloading AOL from BB

Okay, I searched around a while but I can't figure out why I can't DL the AOL messenger from BB's site onto my vzw 8830. I receive an error msg that reads the application is not compatible with my carrier (vzw). (AOL comes installed on all non-pda vzw phones)

Is this actually true?! ... 'Cuz I'm having a really hard time believing it.

    You have a data plan?
Also you're going to http://www.blackberry.com/aim from your device?
If you're having no luck you should check out JiveTalk http://www.beejive.com/download (OTA)
free for 30days, then I suggest the User license

Yeah, I have all the basics covered.

I didn't want to buy an AOL messenger when a free one is apparently available, but it looks like I'm nearing that point.

I'm not sure about VZW, but it is a fact that AT&T cripples their BBs by not allowing all but one of the IM apps distributed by RIM, while their website advertises being able to use them. They also don't allow BB maps. The only reason behind this is that they want you to have to pay even more to use your BB (even though they charge more for their BB service than they should IMO).

My ATT 8820 came with BB Maps installed right out of the box.

Well, in the "lbs.alx" file for the 8300, BB Maps is specifically hidden from AT&T (vendor code 102). I don't know why it would be different for the 8820, but apparently it is. That just shows how far AT&T has their head up their own........ Well, you get the point.

Maybe it is because the 8820 has gps??

All the more reason for AT&T to disallow the BB Maps app. That way they would (theoretically) have more subscribers to their Telenav service. Perhaps, the 8820's were mistakenly released, without BB Maps having been crippled, by mistake. I'm not sure. Although, I'm willing to bet that future 8820 OS releases will not have the BB Maps.
