I'm doing that and it ain't budging. I'm afraid if I apply any more pressure I'll break the thing. RIM has got to be kidding with this nonsense.

Hey I know your pain BBWannabe. RIM must have been trying to design an unlocking puzzle and came up with that sliding mechanism. The instruction booklet that came with your BB should of had a diagram and an explanation on how to release the back in order to get to the battery. Good Luck!

Finally figured it out. How incredibly annoying. Slick phone, though. I think I may like the keyboard more than the Curve's!

The funniest part was is that I was considering throwing it out of the window....with me still holding it.

I have to admit the back cover is very hard to take off but I had more trouble trying to put in my sd card for some reason.

Wow that's surprising since it's so hard to take off. But you're smart to exchange it for a new one.

Re: How in the HELL do you get the battery cover off?

a friend of mine just got the 8830, he couldn't get the back off for a day. I tried and couldn't do it either. I googled and found people talking about it being indestructable.
So a day or two goes by, and POOF, his battery cover just magically comes off with ease now.
    Very strange.

Does the SD card go in the same slot as the SIM card? I can't seem to figure that out.

Also, BBWannabe....why are you taking the cover off to charge it??

I took the cover off to put in my SIM card and haven't touched it since.

Re: How in the HELL do you get the battery cover off?

Seanmtx: they usually come with the battery not installed, so you have to pop the cover off to put it in that 1st time. You also need to do it to remove the MicroSD card, although that is easy compared to the terrible n-gage like placement in the Pearl and Curve, where you have to remove the battery first.

The MicroSD slot sits right under the BB logo. A regular SD card won't work. You don't need to remove the battery to access it, just the battery cover.

The technique we use here is to hold the BB in your left hand, keys down, then with your right thumb, press down and to the left on the BB logo and the cover should come of easily. Just pushing left requires more effort and doesn't work well with a new device.

After you setup 50 or 60 of them, removing the cover is really, really easy, though.
It doesn't record video. Get over it.

Ahah! A narrowly-avoided wrist sprain. For those with less than 25 lbs. of one-hand strength, another technique is to hold unit with both hands, bottom pointing away from you, and use both thumbs, one atop the other, to push the cover forward.
