What carrier are you using so I can help you to locate the OS for your 8800
cingular, have downloaded 8800_MBr4.2.1_rel139_pl22.214.171.124_a126.96.36.199_cingular

You said you downloaded, you carrier version OS, have you installed it?
507 Indicates that your device does not have a OS installed,
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
and delete the vendor.xml file (this will allow you to install none carrier specific firmware on your 8800 like me, lol. I'm using 4.5
now connect your device with DM open and wait a minute or so and you should receive a message telling you that an upgrade is available.
follow the upgrade directions, and do not unplug your phone until you can see the home screen of your device.
*There is a search form in this forum, use it, a lot of people have dedicated time to creating topics to resolve the issues you are experiencing*.
1. deleted vendor file b4 opening DM, this time os showed up.
(can't find 4.5 os for 8800 in any searches)
DM came up with an error when loading "unable to connect in multistage upgrade"
2. chose the option to update programs (even tho there wasn't even an os loaded)
3. used "advanced" button, NOT "Finish" button. to specialize choices.\
4. this thread says to remove battery. WRONG atleast didn't work 10x's for me. but once battery was installed, os loaded right away
now phone is working
thanks for the help

Are you sure the OS you down loaded was for the 8800; not the 8820 or 8830???? Those won't work on your phone. While the OS's are NOT carrier specific, they are model specific.
