    HEllo all,

1st post in here. I have a BB 8800 using Optus Mobile in Australia. When I tried to install Gmail client from m.google.com/a website I am getting the following error :

Error : Invalid manifest or application descriptor

    The "MIDlet-name" attribute is missing

Anyone have any idea about this error?

    Thanks in advance.

    Rizzie

    Re: Gmail client installation

    hey welcome
try going to http://gmail.com/app instead and see if that works. Also do it from the wap browser not the blackberry browser

(if you still have problems from that URL then you could try www.gmail.com/app/v1.1.0/L1/gm-BlackBerry-40.jad )

rizzimelb, since GMail is a push service would it not be easier to set up your GMail account in BIS (your service providers website)? Plus, you'll get the emails instantly anyway...

while this is true about send and receive, the application is nice because you can star things and when you compose a new message it will pull the contacts from the webmail instead of only those in your BB. That is what I like about it... also you can mark things as SPAM

im on optus as well, i just downloaded the app and works fine for me here in queensland on a bb 8800.

there is a program called Gmail Mobile, which i have on my bb as well, cost around 24$, you can try it for free for 7 days, which works fine...i almost bought it untill i stumbled over this thread, but the free gmail app is even better

With this free app, does it check for email every X minutes? Or, do you have to manually do a 'send & receive' from the application?

Gmail app won't poll your mailbox. You don't an andication you got mail unless you open the program or refresh your box. I've run the gmail app for a long time. I guess you could let it run in the background but I don't.
