Do You Want to turn mass storage mode?

I got this question on my 8800, I wasn't doing anything, it just popped up and asked:

Do You Want to turn on mass storage mode? You might not be able to access some media files in this mode. Yes or No answer requested.

What is mass storage mode, and do I want to click yes or no?

Since I don't have an 8100 or 8800 yet, I'll refer you to this thread which should help you out: http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...tings_huh.html. Were you connected to your PC when this message came up?

"mass storage mode" allows you to transfer data from your pc via USB connection, directly to your microSD card while inside of your BB. Hope this helps.

Re: Do You Want to turn mass storage mode?

When it says that some data may not be accessible while enabled it only means while your BB is connected to your computer.

For example, if you receive a call while connected to your computer and your ringtone that's supposed to play is located on your microSD card then the tone won't play.

Exactly what they posted. One upside for mass storage: data is transferred quicker. But you need to pay attention the folder hierarcy. For instance some items will not show up when viewed unless you explore the storage card.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~mass storage mode just allows you to transfer pics, music, and movies without having to use the desktop manager.

So this is something I want to have right?

How do I get the screen with that message back, because I got this same message on my new curve and I did something to make it go away.

    Okay -

Under Media Card I have the following:

    Media Card Support - On
    Encryption Mode - None
Mass Storage Mode Support - On
Auto enable mass storage mode when connected - No

Do I want to Auto enable mass storage mode when connected?

I just want to use things the way they are supposed to and with little effort, thanks for all the help.

I recommend that you turn on the auto enabler, that way you won't have to navigate to the media card option anytime you want to access your microSD card from your PC.

Re: Do You Want to turn mass storage mode?

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~i do not check "don't show me this message". I have it pop up when connected to my pc each time. Click yes to turn it on. Faster transfer rate. My 8830 has only done this when connected to pc through dm. If it just popped up when not connected I have never seen that

Sorry for bringing this old thread up. I'm new and still a little unclear on the "Mass Storage Mode". I did a search and this thread came up.
If you can transfer music and videos faster this way, then what advantages, if any, are there for using the Desktop Manager? Am I just wasting my time using D/M since this other way is faster/easier?

Also...when I turn on the mass storage, my media card doesn't register on the D/M on my PC. Is this normal??

Curious, if you transfer files like .doc, .pdf's, etc . Can you then attach them to an email you create with the BB ? Sounds like a good way of ditching the air card in the laptop.
