    Question Differences from the 8700

I have had the 8800 for about a week and noticed some differences from my 8700. I was hoping someone may be able to help me find a way to change the way the 8800 works.

    1) Bluetooth. On the 8700, you could configure the convenience key to toggle bluetooth on and off. This was nice when I didn't want to leave BT on to drain the battery. On the 8800, there is no option for bluetooth in the conv. key setup. I can set the convenience key to 'manage connections', but that opens a box to enable/disable wireless and bluetooth. Is there a way to have the conv. key turn BT on and off?

    2) on the 8700, moving the wheel would bring the display out of sleep mode. On the 8800, moving the trackball does nothing; you have to press a key. Any way to change this?

    3) with the 8700, when I had an incoming call, I could move the wheel to highlight Ignore and the ringer would stop ringing. On the 8800, if I highlight Ignore, the ringer continues to ring. Has anyone else seen this?

    Thanks for the help

    1. Nope.

    2. Nope. You can press the trackball as well but that's it.

    3. Yup. You can actually hit ignore but it, of course, goes straight to voicemail when you do.

    Re: Differences from the 8700

The trackball was an issue that appeared in the original 8100 at launch that was fixed by RIM immediately after launch. The original issue was that the trackball was not disabled when you locked the keypad so it would answer and hang up calls before you could get to them with just slight pressure (like pulling it out of a pocket or case). There were a huge amount of complaints about it so they rewrote the lock software to lock the trackball also. I use an 8700 so I am not sure if there is a quicker method to bring it out of sleep or not.

    Re: Differences from the 8700

I have the 8800 and find the same except for when it rings and hit ignor, it indeed goes right to voice mail. I still have the 8700c and am waiting for Cingular to send my return labels and I am tryng to get used to the 8800. My problem is the keyboard, after the 8700c keys the 8800 keys are driving me crazy, way to small-dark and slippery. Also the 8700c vibrates much stronger, you know when it is vibrating no matter ware you carry it. All in all, The 8800 is cool and functional, the voice dial is tops- after fine tuneing it it has been right on for the last 15 or so calls.

I can attest to the difference in vibration although I never used those 2 models. I dropped a 7105T one night when it vibrated. It fell on my bed so no damage was done to the phone itself. My Pearls' vibrating alert is so silent that I have to look at the screen to see if I have a message. I keep my LED message indicator on during the day because of this.
