    Cingular/AT&T 8800 Launch...Flop Or Not?

So about a week to go until this device launches, so let's see what everyone thinks...

Cingular has a proven record of totally screwing up the launch of a new device from retail outlets not being stocked to sales staff not knowing when a device is launching.

Below, are some of the most well remembered stories from the last Cingular BlackBerry flop (I mean launch) just in case you forgot...

Boy Genius: Cingular dropped the ball about Pearl release date

Pearl-ordering reader: "a freakin' nightmare...Cingular will NEVER AGAIN have my business"

Cingular rep asked me about Pearl: "What was that called, again?"

Spamdumpster: Cingular Premier lost my Pearl order today

Cingular corporate reps: each one has their own Pearl ETA

    So the poll is simple:

Will Cingular/AT&T repeat history once again and flop on this launch also?

Or do you think that AT&T is going to be able to get Cingulars "inner company communication lines" cleared a little bit...

    What are your thoughts?

Flop. I know they're the biggest but I still can't see why RIM puts up with it. Whe the Pearl was released on Tmo it was nearly without a hitch.

What I dont understand is why everyone is so suprised?! Are you guys that dukll in the head that as soon as you hear about a new product you start advance ordering them for your execs? LOL! Way to go. Why not just chill and wait for things to fall into place; let the other guy put all his eggs in one basket, or is it that people just NEED to have the newest, bestest bling before anyone else? Again...LOL!

I think it could be interesting to see how the 8800 does compared to Apple's iPhone for the launch. Which will get screwed up more and if / how they learn from the previous times.

Doesn't much matter to me anyway as I'm not in the States.

In NYC, at&t had the worst customer service, the highest prices and the crappiest phones. Good to see with mergering with cingular they now get better phones.

About the only thing that cingular did that impressed me somewhat was offer roll over minutes

Also remember Cingular's seamless iPhone features and info pages. EVERY launch for BB has been screwed 8700c, 8100 and the 8800 should have the same coming soon info page as iPhone.

For Cingular it's "the New BlackJack from Cingular" and anything BUT BlackBerry. All the TV ads are BlackJack and those will be followed by the iphone I'm sure of it.

Something else must binds RIM to Cingular...

    Re: Cingular/AT&T 8800 Launch...Flop Or Not?

Cingular is obviously in bed with RIM guys can't you see!? I am a Cingular customer and I think they are pretty good. Ever service has their own set of problems deal with it. Nothing in life is perfect. I'm very interested in the new device myself but damn some of you guys are acting like it really is crack. One thing I do know is you can't please everybody. If they postponed the released date some of you would be so sick like as if you were on life support. But guess what you would wait and when it came out you would buy it. I wish that I was on the business side of this like an RIM major stock holder or something because damn you guys are strung out! I love my BB just like the rest but give it a break. I'm not trying to come down on anyone please don't take this personal. When this phone comes out, there will be problems they must work out and it won't be corrected until the second or third batch gets sent to the stores. So why rush? To say you got the new BB? Then if it has problems you be complaing here to. Let them guys get the kinks out of the 8800. Please!

    Re: Cingular/AT&T 8800 Launch...Flop Or Not?

Cingular is in bed with RIM and Apple. I think thats pretty obvious.
Now that should prompt the question, why?
I would like to think that companies like RIM and Apple, two of the most innovative companies in recent history know something that we don't.
They obvisouly see value in having Cingular release the first iTunes enabled Phone, the Pearl, the 8800 and the iPhone. Releasing a new product isn't simple. I'd like to think that RIM and Apple think Cingular is the most capable otherwise they wouldn't have awarded that contract to them.
Sorry the ratio between Flop and NOT were just too skewed I had to take the underdog side.
