co-sign. Im beginning to wonder what RIM was thinking. The 8800 so far seems to be nothing more than a plus-sized version of the Pearl.

I'm thinking the same thing for the most part. Because I don't get my Pearl until tomorrow and prefer QWERTY, I'm going to swap it out however for an 8800 and pay only the difference. If my 30 day trial was up however then I can't see myself paying too much more.

I hear you LOUD and CLEAR!
I'd take the camera over the full QWERTY keyboard.
SureType keyboard is not bad at all after you give it little bit of time getting used to it.
Let us all TMO users hope that when TMO version 88xx comes out, it will have the 2 most wanted features. CAMERA and WIFI!
Then I might upgrade from my Pearl.
    RIM, are you listening?

    ______________
    Regarding the two statements above:

    1) The 8800 is not a plus-sized version of the Pearl.
What the 8800 is: A new full sized BlackBerry with a qwerty keyboard. A new model with many improvements over the 8700. The fact that it resembles the Pearl only reflects RIM's choice to capitalize on the broad public acceptance of it's styling. Another significant advantage of similar styling is Brand Awareness. So RIM now has two models to offer that are instantly recognized as BlackBerrys. Going forward they now know that by using elements of this design & style in future models, the Brand awareness will be further enhanced.

    2) The fact that RIM decided to offer the 8800 without a camera was completely logical. The core user base for this device being government agencies & large corporations, dictates a BB without a camera for purposes of security. Therefore since the Pearl has a camera, it was important that the next qwerty model be designed without one.

Also as we have already seen it's highly likely the very next qwerty model 8xxx or 9xxx will have a camera, wifi, & other features that are of impotant to individual public users.

They were thinking that their corporate clients -- who currently have millions and millions of deployed devices and are the foundation of RIM's user base -- will need a Blackberry just like the 8800 for future sales and upgrades.

It's been known for quite some time that there will be at least two devices in the 8800 family: the Indigo and the Crimson. The 8800 is the Indigo. The Crimson sounds like it will be the 8820 and it will have a camera. I don't see what all the griping is about...

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I agree, my primary use of my BB isn't for pictures. It would be a mice feature but not a deal breaker. I'm getting the 8800 for cingular tomorrow with or without a camera.
