can't see back up with OS

I got a 8830. Installed the OS on my laptop. I have XP. After I installed it, I performed a back up and saved it in My Documents. When I try to open the file, it opens with Microsoft Office Document Imaging. An error comes up and says, "The selected file is not a valid Microsoft Office Document Imaging file" I've tried other programs but they won'w work either. What did I do wrong or how can I see my backed up file? Thank you.

I think you can only get to the file through desktop manager when you want to do a restore, I dont think you can actually look at the contents. your computer is probably trying to guess what would open an .ipd extension.

The backup file is just that, a backup file. It's not meant to be read on the PC. Only to restore the blackberry to the state the system was in at the time of the backup in case of corruption of the data on your BB. All that being said, you can extract certain types of items from the backup file and save in various formats if you need. This requires a 3rd party program for you PC called ABC Amber Blackberry. I don't have the link. It's not that expensive if you really need to view/save the data on your PC.
