there is a seller who is selling refurbished phones, blackberries. is it ok to buy these? he says they are in unopened boxes, so does it mean that they are guaranteed to work?

Sometimes refurbs are better than new ones. Does the seller offer any sort of guarantee on these?

better than new ones? i thought refurbishments were hardware that were returned by other customers, or hardware that was broken and fixed by the company? yes the seller offers some guarantee.

They are, but refurbs are kind of like buying a "certified" used car. A certified used car has gone through a multi-step process to ensure the vehicle is free of defects, etc. The same could probably be said of a rebuilt phone, depending of course on where and how the device was rebuilt.

Ok i see. do refurbishments have some user marks? or do they usually look exactly as they were new?

They should look like new devices.

A lot of refurbs are store demo models, or phones people didn't like and turned in before their 30 day grace period was up. I've bought several refurbs and have not had any issues at all.

the phone is unlocked, but the description is "blackberry 8820 vodaphone" . what does that mean?

It means it's an 8800 model blackberry, if it was domestic, the 20 at the end would designate that it was for TMobile, a 00 or 10 - AT&T, and a 30- Verizon. Its probably a "world" phone. Vodafone is a European wireless carrier. What wireless carrier are you wanting to activate this 8820 on?

not sure yet, just an inexpensive carrier and maybe with BIS. but why is the description "vodafone" if it is unlocked?

That's the original carrier the phone was issued to, like for instance a red BlackBerry 8310 that's branded AT&T was originally sold for the AT&T network. But if unlocked it can be used on any domestic GSM carrier.
