I agree, and usually, at least on the three GSM BBs I have had, the total memory has approximated the advertised amount while the free memory has been anywhere from half of the total to almost none. It may be that CDMA devices are different in this.

    Re: BB Device Memory concern

Thanx for the info. It would seem to be due to the Dual radios (CDMA/GSM) taking up the extra memory right off the bat.

Two other CDMA Blackberrys (7250 and 8703) lose about 6mb on the operating system (Down to 58mb Total Memory on the device). Throw in a GSM radio, and it is down to 48mb for the 8830.

Disappointing to take a 64mb device down to 47841280 just by loading the OS.

    Thanx again.

48 is still a ton of space on a BB unless you intend to load a lot of photos and ringtones (in which case you really should be using the media card on a BB that supports it).

The following Blackberry devices advertise 64mb of ram on the Blackberry Website and respective carrier sites.

    Blackberry 7250
    Blackberry 8703e
    Blackberry 8830
    Blackberry 8300
    Blackberry 8100

But, if you check under Options > Status, and look at 'Total File' for each device, it difers pretty drastically, which is a cause for concern or confusion.

    Blackberry 7250 = 58mb
    Blackberry 8703e = 58mb
    Blackberry 8830 = 48mb
    Blackberry 8300 = 65mb
    Blackberry 8100 = 65mb

Given the fact that I am currently using the 8830, and I enjoy using the Audio and Video capabilities, this is a concern for me.

If anybody on this board, can help explain the reasons for this, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you inadvance.

    Have a great weekend.
