    BB Device Memory concern

I have a question that I am hoping one of the stackers out there can answer, or explain.

The following Blackberry devices advertise 64mb of ram on the Blackberry Website and respective carrier sites.

    Blackberry 7250
    Blackberry 8703e
    Blackberry 8830
    Blackberry 8300
    Blackberry 8100

But, if you check under Options > Status, and look at 'Total File' for each device, it difers pretty drastically, which is a cause for concern or confusion.

    Blackberry 7250 = 58mb
    Blackberry 8703e = 58mb
    Blackberry 8830 = 48mb
    Blackberry 8300 = 65mb
    Blackberry 8100 = 65mb

Given the fact that I am currently using the 8830, and I enjoy using the Audio and Video capabilities, this is a concern for me.

If anybody on this board, can help explain the reasons for this, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you inadvance.

    Have a great weekend.

    Re: BB Device Memory concern

Backup your device on your desktop manager and do a hard wipe, check the memory hold then and see if it's a possible file hold of it eating the memory up or to many applications you may have running as well and never closed them.

I have 64MB+ on my 7100i and I know if I have a big file loaded, it's slow as a snail. The issue the size of file memory it requires and like I said before, something maybe sitting in the back eating your memory up.

For it being 48MB even after you doa wipe (if you do) then I would recommend you having it checked on.

At my company, we have opened up Six 8830's out of the box, and they all are at 48mb of ram. Looking at the Blackberry Manager software it registers as a 48mb device.

Waiting for RIM to shed some light for me.

    Thanx for the response.

My BB 8100 is at 64Mb as advertised. A little bit larger actually but not 65 like you mentioned. Im sorry though I cant help you with your question. Only one that could shed some light is RIM. Good luck finding your answers.

    Re: BB Device Memory concern

Interesting, thank you. I know somebody with a white 8100, and one other person with an 8300, and that is what I based my info on. Maybe the 8100's vary for some reason.

However, I know of Six 8830's so far, and hundreds of 7250's and 8703's.

Can other users that view this site, please comment on how much Total memory their device has. Options > Status and look under 'Total File'.

    I would appreciate it.

    Re: BB Device Memory concern

I'm not to sure since my 8100 is showing 65mb of memory, but just like the sd card, if it says 1gb, you actually get about 984mbs. I think it's the same thing with some of the blackberry devices. I actually never checked my 8700g, or my 7105t for the memory thing, but I would suggest do a back up and a wipe.

Is that total memory on the device? Or is it the free memory? Sounds to me more like a well cleaned up free memory instead of total. Every BlackBerry that I have had has been right on with respect to advertized memory.

    Just a thought.
