    BB8800 won't bootup

    Hi All,

Can someone HELP ME please with my BB8800. I just happen to receive an error this morning without even doing anything with my BB880. The error message says.

    JVM Error 545
    incompatible or currupt Filesystem
    Scroll for available commands
    <Reset>

B'coz of this i can no longer use my BB. I tried reloading the OS using some procedures I saw in some other post from http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...uter_wont.html. I'm using Desktop Manager 4.2.1 with Handheld software 4.2.1 for 8800 Series Wireless Handheld in which I downloaded from Blackberry site. After the installation of OS I always get Fatal error saying "Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000005]" or "Unspecified error encountered [J:0x0000000A]". I tried also running the javauploader.exe -usb wipe and the JL_cmder.exe but I end up with the same error when I try to reinstall the OS and when it boots up it only shows some shapes picture with JVM 543.

can someone please help me with this. All the fix that I saw in pinstack doesn't seem to work on me.

    eternally grateful,
    John

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

I would try removing the DM and OS from your PC and try loading the new OS with DM 4.3 and the latest OS for your BB. From what I could see, this is it: http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...2_1_108_a.html
Is that what you are trying to load? If not, uninstall the old OS from the PC and install this, delete the vendor.xml in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and then try reloading.

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

I downloaded this core apps version.

    BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.1.138 (Multilanguage)

    Package Version: 4.2.1.138
    Consisting of:
    Applications: 4.2.1.90
    Software Platform: 2.3.0.72
    File name: 8800M_PBr4.2.1_rel138_PL2.3.0.72_A4.2.1.90_Rogers. exe
    File size: 71.61MB

Apparently i'm downloading the DM 4.3 and im into 82% of completing the download. I did also the procedure in deleting the vendor.xml before I tried reinstalling the OS of my BB but to no avail. Thanks for giving the link for the new firmware for BB8800 however it is for Chinese only so it wouldn't help me at all.

Is there any other options just in case after I installed the DM4.3 and it still doesn't work?

    thanks

The others in that post stated that it is not Chinese only. You can choose not to install the Chinese langauge and it should default to English (per post #6 in that thread). Be sure to remove the old OS and DM versions before installing the new ones.

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

thanks man. I already installed the DM 4.3 and the new handheld software but i'm still getting the same error. I uninstalled the existing DM and handheld software I have before installing the new one.

This is the error i get when installing the OS:
A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again.
    Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000005]

Error I get when handheld reboots.
    543 (then the shape image)

    any other bright idea?

    thanks, appreciate your help...

You did not mention it, but did you uninstall the old OS from the PC first? If not do that or it will default to that one first.

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

Yes, right after I successfully uninstall the old DM 4.2 and the handheld software 4.2.1 Rogers I installed the DM4.3 and the handled software you gave me in the link. After that I wipe the content of my BB by running the JL_CMDER(I even also use the javaloader.exe -usb wipe) after doing that it shows me the Java error 507 in which I understand means my BB is already empty. Once I emptied my BB I connected it to the USB without a battery, checked the option and chose the USB PIN:<my BB PIN> then OK then went to Application loader (vendor.xml is deleted), checked the applications i want to install click next then before hitting the FINISH button I checked first on the advance option if both check box are thicked then after that I click finish then the process shows content is being erase then i put back the battery and wait for the other process to Finish however on the last step where it is already loading all the modules just before it completed the process my BB just suddenly reboots then I got this error in the DM 4.3:

A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again.
    Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000005]

Note: when I installed the DM4.3 I even rebooted my PC when I was asked to reboot and I also made sure that all handheld software installed in my PC are removed when I installed the new one.

Hope this enlighten you on what I'm facing this very moment. Please HELLLPPPP...

    joaquin

Couple of quick questions - have you attempted to start the process with the battery in place? How many attempts have you made and did they all result in the same error?

Ok...another ? - what applications are you checking off to install in application loader?

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

i tried more than 3 times with battery and 3 times without battery. For the applications i checked I was so desperate I only choose the ENGLISH(UK) language in some of the installation I tried leaving the rest as default but to no avail.

So would you recommend that I send it to the phone workshop?

    thanks

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

Do you get the same result each time? Actually if you are able to detect the device and begin the process with the battery installed there is no real reason to do it without. If this is the case then we are only dealing with a software error on install, correct? Now I am a little confused about what you downloaded and installed or removed from your desktop and in what order. So...lets start from scratch. I would like you to go into control panel and uninstall all versions of blackberry device software you have installed on your desktop. Then reboot, and install just the device software you want to load. Delete the vendor file, and with the battery in the device try to install the just the device software (no 3rd party applications).

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

thanks guys for your effort in helping me.

Let me break it down from the start.

First my blackberry just suddenly won't boot up and the error was:

    JVM Error 545
    incompatible or currupt Filesystem
    Scroll for available commands
    <Reset>

When I got this error I tried to reinstall the OS of my BB8800. That time I have Desktop Manager 4.2.1 installed in my PC and BlackBerry 8800 Handheld Software v4.2.1.138 (Multilanguage). So when I plug in my BB with battery to my PC it shows disconnected but when I can the connection option it can still detect the corresponding PIN of the BB so I proceed with the installation. In my first 3 tries just before the installation completes the BB automatically restarts and DM shows this error message "A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again.
    Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000005]"

After doing this I tried the process without the battery for several times and I endup with the same error. So I proceed with the process in wiping-out the content of my BB first my using either JL_CMDER or javaloader.exe -usb wipe then proceed with the usual installation process with battery. There is some instances that I get the same [J:0x00000005] error but there is some instances also that the installation was successful. However even if it says that the installation was successful but when your turn it on it only shows the HOUR GLASS then after 5-10mins it will only show error 102.

Then i proceed with the uninstallation of my existing desktop manager and handheld software the install the new DesktopManager 4.3 and Software For BlackBerry 8800 (TM) BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.1.179 (Chinese). I rebooted my PC as I was asked to reboot it after the installation then before I start the reloading of the OS to my BB i deleted first the vendor.xml then proceed with the usual installation process with and without battery but to no avail. I am still getting the "Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000005]" during the installation and when the BB reboots automatically it will only show in the screen the JVM error "543" with the shapes images.

hope this info pulls you out from your confusion.

    thanks man

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

Sorry to say that I am out of ideas. RIM advises that a 543 error or a 102 error indicate the need for a clean uninstall/reinstall of the device operating sytem, which it appears you have performed. Perhaps we will get another suggestion, otherwise it is possible there is some hardware damage. Please let us know if there is any progress.

    Re: BB8800 won't bootup

Thanks man... Im planning to take it this afternoon to the phone workshop for them to have a look as it is under device warranty so i don't have to pay anything. I will definitely let you know what are there findings on the device.

thanks again, really do appreciate your effort and Mr.doughdaddy assistance.
