I've played around with BBMaps and Google Maps and I honestly prefer Google Maps - it seems to load maps faster and also allows you to switch between map and satellite mode - you can actually zoom down on the Pearl to the level that, in maps I've looked at in San Diego area, you can actually see cars to the degree that you can tell color and model if your an auto geek! The interface is similar, but Google Maps sees to be a little more robust.

On the BB 8800 - type this into the browser: www.knology.net/~acidmax/blackberry/maps.jad

It'll download BB maps on your 8800 directly. Works like a charm
EDIT: I pasted this from another thread, I didn't do this myself.
Do you know if GPS works with this version since it's the same version from the pearl.

Can someone take a picture of BB Maps for the 8800? I have a version on my 7290, which I downloaded from the BlackBerry HELP website, and it is crap. I'm just wondering if they actually made any improvements.

If you need to go to that link in red to access BBry maps, how do you use Google maps instead? Do you need to d/l something to use that instead? I have more faith in the google maps than anything, I just want to make sure that the GPS service on the BBry will 'talk' with Google Maps

There's another link on blackberryforums.com that allows you to get google maps OTA since the current link doesn't work with the 8800 for some reason.

The only problem with google maps is GPS doesn't work with any of the current versions. I believe it is upcoming though just like BB maps will have POI and other google maps stuff in an upcoming release.
