8800 - Will GPS be a separate fee???

I was just curious if anyone knows if the GPS function on the 8800 will be a service included in the BIS Unlimited package, or if they'll charge extra for it.

It depends on the software that you use. Cingular will be pushing Telenav which is $9.99/mo for unlimited use and a bit less for limited use. You can use other GPS apps as well.

Does anyone think that Verizon will disable the GPS capability?

I'd like to hear more information on this as I was under the impression it would be free since they are including it on the phone as an application.

I think BB Maps will be free, but TeleNav will be $9.99 mo for unlimited use.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~I think Kasper is right. The cingular web pages states that telenav works with the 8800, whis is definitely 9.99.

Re: 8800 - Will GPS be a separate fee???

I've never used GPS on a phone as I have it in my cars. Does it give 'turn by turn' navigation? How well does it work? I'd assume that it triangulates cell towers to give location, is that true? Otherwise I'd assume that you'd need to hook it up to an external antenna or keep it on your dash? Is it worth 9.99 a month? Is it nationwide?

    Just curious, thanks

It should be free just like all sprint phones have GPS in them they call it locator but it only works if you file a police report as stolen but I think that it should bee free of charge

BlackBerry Maps is a steaming pile and I don't feel like paying $9.99/mo extra to use the hardware that I (would have) paid for. Hopefully they'll GPS enable Google Maps for BlackBerry soon...

Cingular also includes the ability to send SMS messages and push-to-talk, but both have an extra charge.

Resolution - what you said is correct, to an extent. TeleNav Maps is free, but full TeleNav GPS Navigator comes at an additional price. At least, that's what I understand from what is stated here (from Cingular's BB 8800 website):
TeleNav GPS Navigator™ is available for additional monthly charges of $5.99 for 10 trips and $9.99 for unlimited trips. Alternately, BlackBerry 8800 customers can choose TeleNav Maps—a free application that provides static maps and driving directions.

This just in for Google Maps for the 8800...

On the BB 8800 - type this into the browser: www.knology.net/~acidmax/blackberry/maps.jad

It'll download BB maps on your 8800 directly. Works like a charm
EDIT: I pasted this from another thread, I didn't do this myself.
