    8800 GPS / Social Networking

The "social networking" immediately makes me think of the Helio phones that allows you to post your GPS location to friends as well as see their locations.
Is this whats going on with the 8800?

I have read posts from users saying that the GPS is difficult to get working but does in-fact work.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Sure...It should...And if you are on BES it will also allow your bosses to check and make sure where you are and that you are telling them the truth!

"Hey Boss, I am downtown right now" when in all actuality they pull it up and see you're on the east side of town...

Easy fix, keep your BB in your office, and forward your calls to your Pay-as-you-go phone when at the strip club for lunch.

Regarding GPS, I found it very easy to setup and it works fine.

    However that said:

Buyer Beware when it comes to GPS, no matter what type of device it's included in....

    Cheers...

Please look into this "Social Networking" claim, Is it only for BES, will it work among BIS users, what parameters does the phone offer for setup, ect.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Re: 8800 GPS / Social Networking

I can confirm that my GPS works fine on my BlackBerry Maps. While I remember a Location Based Services option on some of my co-workers Pearl phones, I can't seem to find it on my 8800. I thought it was under settings --> options --> advanced

Re: 8800 GPS / Social Networking

Still havn't heard from anyone who has found the ability for social networking on the 8800.
    I have found this: www.mologogo.com
They offer a free application and service that allows any GPS enabled phone to interact with other GPS users
I'm still the proud owner of an 8700g, so I have not had the opportunity to test this free software myself.
If someone with a new 8800 feels up to it will you please report back with likes and dislikes.

Re: 8800 GPS / Social Networking

Meh...NO WAY...I don't want anyone being able to log in and see where I am at 24/hrs a day 7 days a week...That's not going to happen. I like my privacy.

lol, I understand where you're comming from.

I'm pretty sure you can turn it off and on.

For me it's more like: "Hey im at this great party, check out my location and meet me here"
