8800 GPS REMOVAL? Can you get tracked?

Is there anyway to remove the GPS antenna or even wipe the feature off the handheld.

I know a few people that feel that certain people witll be able to track there movements. Is this just a urban myth? or is true?

Can anybody give me some advice how the GPS works in terms of if you can track somebody? or can you actually physically remove the antenna or software?

    thanks

You should technically be able to disable it, I'll need to screw around with it to see what can be done with it. get back to you later

Oh sure you can be tracked. You should be able to goto Options and turn it off however.
But yes, if your company wants to track you, they can.

The implant thing is a good idea. I'll give it a whirl. Make shopping and locating my kids easier.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ ya, I wouldn't want my boss to have dibs on me at all times. Ill never get an implant though... What if I end up being a fugative one day? The implant would take all the fun out of running.

A company device can be used to track you. IE the Nextel "dots" comercial. No privacy concerns, because they can say its to track their property, the devicce. Just so happens you are with the device. So don't take where you should not be :P. Legally with a private device, you are not allowed to be tracked with a court order or your express permission. Can this be abused, sure any system can be abused. However if the device can't get sat signal, then you cant be tracked. If you cant simply disable it, then place it in a lead box

It may be relevant to note that you don't need GPS on a cellular device to determine its location. Using triangulation between cell towers, it is already possible to determine a users location just by being connected to the cell network. If someone is that worried about their location being tracked, they may be wise to not carry any cell phone with them at all, or at least turn off the radio when they don't want to be tracked.

I'm not sure, but some emergency 911 services on phones may already use this triangulation technology to determine your location when you make an emergency call.

One option, I have BT linked my wifes 8100, which does not have a GPS internal. So in theory you can find Pearl to BT with, then select it as your GPS source option. Voila the GPS source does not have an Antenna.
