8800 GPS - can it be used as logger for photo Geocoding?

Any idea if any of the existing GPS programs would support this, and if so, how?

(If not - anyone want to write it? ... hint hint)

Idea would be to capture locations to Geocode exif's on photos.

    Thanks

To my knowledge the answer would be no because the program would have to interact with the camera. So someone would have to write a program that would use bluetooth to work with the camera of choice or perhaps the usb port of the camera.

That would work but isn't necessary. I was thinking something more basic that would just capture locations in a log file by time when activated and then upload the log file to a pc to append into the exifs. Something like the Sony GPS-CS1KA. As long as the GPS (phone) and camera time clocks are in sync no communication is required at time of picture taking. After the pictures and GPS log are uploaded to a pc, the pc based software will match the picture's time with a time in the GPS log and pull the location and then append to the picture's exif. Voila - a geocoded picture.

Apparently there are some standard file formats for gps log files. All the BB app would need to do is initiate (or terminate) location logging to a log file and every x seconds poll the gps and write location w/ date/time to the log file. Then it would need to be able to send this to a computer in some manner, say by email or via sync. Thats all. Then on the desktop computer other software does the linking the log file to the pictures and editing the exifs.

I'm looking for this exact thing. Can Telenav log NMEA data to a log file?

    According to Stinsondog's page http://home.comcast.net/~tamsterra/O...kberry_GPS.htm

a program called Spot does geocaching, however its a $49 program that reportedly doesn't work very well. He says this is the only program that does geocaching on the blackberry at this time. Hope this changes ...

This would be a really simple program to write and useful to hikers, photographers, and anyone who wants to do a location log.

    http://qcontinuum.org/gpstrack/index.htm

Simple app. Took a little while to get it installed on my pearl, but then it was easy to connect to the bluetooth GPS. Allows for track logs to be exported to SD Card as .kml, .gpx, or .csv files. Shows basic trip info, distance, average speed, average elevation.
