8800 crashing & restarting spontaneously often
wife's 8800 keeps crashing and restarting spontaneously. Its on Rogers network in Canada and is running 0/S v4.2.190.
It worked great for about a year. About a month ago is started crashing occasionally. Lately is has been crashing a rebooting itself more than once a day. Especially frustrating when this occurs during a live phone conversation.

There are a couple of possible causes to explore on this matter. Is she running any 3rd party applications? Can you please post the free memory under Options - Status?

in addition to standard apps, she uses both Gtalk (1.0.21) and GMail (1.2.7) for blackberry. File Free is 18893640 Bytes. O/S is v4.2.190 (Platform 184.108.40.206)
Who is your carrier? You OS version is missing a decimal - is it 220.127.116.11? If so, you may find some relief by installing a newer OS. The newest I am aware of for your device is .108, links to DL are below, and a How To install is in my blog if needed..

I am running a 8800 on Rogers, and late last week, it also started spontaneously rebooting. I am running OS 22.214.171.124, and the phone had not done this in the 13 months I have had it (I bought it unlocked in the US, before Rogers released it). I have 31.1 MB file free.
I didn't think to post, nor did a network problem occur to me; so I methodically uninstalled recent/new/upgraded applications (I install/upgrade stuff all the time) that I'd installed in the past week, and the problem seems to have stopped.
That said, it's hard to tell if the phone has rebooted or not if I am not paying specific attention (I don't make very many calls on it, where that would be as apparent).

confirming O/S is v126.96.36.199 (Platform 188.8.131.52). employer has the blackberry pretty much locked down so I am confident these applications have been running without any real problems for a little over a year. I suspect we will try installing a more updated O/S to see if that helps. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions before I launch this step?....(since this will require giving the blackberry to IT for a few days so they can accomplish this)

I also have a 8800 on Rogers and upgraded to OS 184.108.40.206 and am still crashing. Any ideas?
what finally solved the issue
Hello, below is what finally solved the issue. No problems with crashing have been reported since. Wife is happy...
1. reformat blackberry entirely
2. install O/S version 4.5.037 or better for 8800
3. upgrade Google Talk for Blackberry to version 2.0.43 or better
4. upgrade Gmail for Blackberry to latest version: crackberry.com/download-gmail-software-application-blackberry
