    Question 8800 Backlight issue

The backlight on my 8800 comes on for no reason. The BB will just be sitting on the desk and it comes on. I have tried both auto dim on and off and it makes no differnce. Is the backlight designed to come on wheneverthe unit access the network? I have many apps installed that update in the background. This would not be an issue excpet that it is chewing up the battery.

    Thanks

    Re: 8800 Backlight issue

I have the pearl and the same thing happens, it just occurs at random times. I always thought it does it when my phone auto switches from EDGE to GPRS. It's not like it does it all the time and it doesn't really bother me,,, so I never really asked why it does that.

I know the 8800 has angle sensitivity. Have you looked at those settings in the screen/keyboard menu? Just a suggestion. Let me know if that helps.

Angles for the trackball? Not sure how/why this would effect the backlight.

I have a similar problem and figured out it was google maps causing it. Whenever I don't fully exit from the application (click menu, exit) it does this. I figured it must be the gps kicking in and causing it. Click Alt+Back buttons to see which applications you have running

    Re: 8800 Backlight issue

Glad that worked. The Alt+back is like pressing the menu button and bringing up the Switch Application screen or atl+tab on a pc. I use it often to see what applications are running in the background and closing the one's I am not using. Saves some battery life.
