Take a look at these instructions and see if they will help. You also must subscribe to your carrier's tethered modem option. If you do not, these instructions will be of no value.

I'm on Cingy and I don't subscribe to tethered modem. It works great. Works for 8700 too.

Re: 8800 as modem for laptop?

Thanks for the responses - Unfortunately this doesn't work for 8800!

I managed to get put through to a Blackberry expert at Vodafone this morning (They took some pursuading!).
He had to go away and try it out for the first time - he got it working but only via bluetooth.
He is sending detailed instructions on which Bluetooth Dongle I need and then how to go through the set up - its a complicated process by the sounds of it.

I have his OK to post the results here so watch this space! (If it works!)

Annoying that it's harder with a new phone than an old one - progress?!

Anyone else manage to get their 8800 working like this?

Just be aware that Cingular may decide at some point down the road to back-charge you for historical tethering use if they find out. This has definitely happened to others tethering on Cingular without the plan.

Worked like a charm! First try even! Everyday I find more and more ways to use my BB.

Thank you again for the detail instructions!

THE OP is on Vodaphone, but your comment on charges is still relevant. Keep an eye on the charges.

Also, don't expect any blazing seep. The average should be 50-125 kbps with a max of 236 to 300 kbps.

MSWord Instructions were spot-on except for the following:

    T-Mobile Users (United States, {?Oregon?})

    Internet connection info is: at+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
and no username or password is required if you have an individual account (leave blank)

I had to call T-Mobile (carrier) helpline to get this info, but they were amazingly fast and polite. Dont know why they've made this feature so difficult to access, but maybe they dont want everyone using it and tying up the network. Speed (location specific) was painfully slow 10-13kps, not 115kps as advertised, but that is the drawback of living in Smallville, USA.

Many thanks for the MSWord document. Had all of the other network info, which is necessary to complete the process for a 100% complete job, not been in the WordDoc, it probably would have been a much more painful process as the PhoneReps are not computer network specialists.

i copied the folders "USB Drivers", "Modem Drivers" on to the BB Media Card. While on the go, i can use my BB for internet on any computer that has windows.

Folders located at: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion

here is a bandwidth test from speakeasy.net
