I don't have any experience with the 8100 but I do want to say that the 8800 is an excellent device. If you're in real need of a camera then I would go for the 8100.

many carriers, including Tmobile let you get a phone and if you unhappy with it you can try another. I would recommend trying the 8800 first..see if the lack of phone bothers you and if you like the full qwerty keyboard. If you dont, within 14 days you can return the 8800 and get the pearl. Thats carriers in the US so I dont know about others globally

I have the 8800 & I love it. It would be nice to have the camera feature, but really I haven't used it much on previous phones that had it.

But guess what...... It still works and the screen dont have a single scratch on it.. is as good as new

But as for the camera on the 8100, I am not to impressed and can live without it. I now have a 8800 with out the camera and dont miss it at all

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ok, I have read through most of the posts, and here is my thought. My last pearl was the 7100 and I hated it, quit working after a week and long story short sprint didn't replace it like they should have.
I have a pearl and I love it. I am used to the keyboard because I was a 3yr user of a treo. Also I'm a female with smaller hands..I read from many that if you have fat fingers you make want a full keyboard. No offense to those with fat fingers LOL! Also I like my camera but with 5 kids and being big into scrapbooking I use my digital camera A LOT! I use the phone a lot also, and since I have unlimited data and my computer sucks..well let's just at I avoid looking at how much data I really use.
I love my pearl, you will love whatever you pick. Try them out and welcome to the family.
