i have always been under the impression that magnetic flap cases can couse damage to the screen and sometimes the distort the finish. i bit the bullet and bought a Body Glove horizontal cases (awesome case by the way, fits my 8320 beautifully with the rubber blackberry skin)

what are you opions on this? long term expierence?

    heres the case FYI

Blackberry actually makes a magnetic case for their phones. The magnet also activates a switch in the phone to turn on and off the screen when inserted into the holster. I wouldn't think BB would make something harmful to their own product.

I have an OEM Leather Holster with mag latch flap. I have used one for my 8700 and Pearl and one for my curve and have never had a problem with the screen.

Rcbjr, how long did you use the mag flap for your devices? did you always have it in there, or only if you were out?

Unless it's on my nightstand during the week it's normally in the holster. Sometimes on weekends a my just put it down beside me but I normally keep it in the holster if I have my pants on and not my sweats. I'd say total about 65 percent of the time it's in the holster.

I am with Rcb - cant speak for the body glove unit but I have used an OEM leather holster with my Pearl from day 1 (with a BSE underneath of course)...also use the In Holster / Out of Holster settings (which required the magnet). Never an issue.

I have the OEM case and the magnet on mine seems pretty strong, almost like a shop magnet. I'm always having stray paper clips attach to it at work. I don't think magnets affect LCD screens, just old school CRTs.

Magnets affect anything electric. No exceptions! The affect is minimal when you are talking about mini magnets next to lcd screens. Now if you get a larger magnet you might be able to do some damage, but even a MRI machine won't do any long term damage to your phone.

I have been using a Covertec leather case on my 7520. It lives in the case except for the occasional battery pull. I do not use the belt clip, instead I just put the bb case and all in a pocket.

I've always used holsters with magnets with my Blackberries and I've never had any trouble.

Using the oem leather magnetic one. Made my screen not turn on once. Must have been a stuck mag switch.I just ran it by the mag again and its been ok ever since.

Well, if an MRI's not going to bother it, nothing will!
