My dad is going to be traveling to france in a few weeks, instead of getting a verizon worldphone i wanted to see if my old unlocked AT&T blackberry 7280 will work for basic phone use using a prepaid sim in france. if so can anyone suggest a good place to get a prepaid sim from in france that will work with it.

This is one place that I've used - 3 years ago - that sell SIMS. Your unlocked phone should work over there with phone service - I don't know what, if anything is available for data service but you can check with the site and see. Good luck.

I used an unlocked blackberry and bought a specific sim card on ebay for greece for $15. Had no minutes but just loaded when I got there. It worked out great!

I'm guessing that if you can wait until you get to your destination you can get a less expensive, pre-paid SIM - the $60 or so that they charge from these places is mostly for the convenience of having the phone access when you get off the plane. I'd probably wait next time - it's not that difficult to get over there, especially if you're in a city of any size with a carrier's retail shop. You can do the research before you go to find that out. I landed in Paris - I think I could have found one easily enough.
