I am guessing that you are on a bes? I have seen them when an activation has problems. usually this email is sent from the blackberry network to the BES during setup. The user usually never sees it.

I have not seen it appear on a BB that has successfully done the activation.

Yes, I have seen similar messages appear on a users outlook when he was having problems getting emails on his BB. The weird thing was these messages appear and disappear so fast, I don't even have time to look at it carefully.

Re: what do these emails mean?

ETP is the messaging protocol that the BlackBerry Network uses. You installed the BlackBerry desktop software on your PC, selected the option that says you're using OutLook and then connected your BlackBerry to your PC.

    You need to...

    1) Remove the BlackBerry Desktop Software from your PC
    2) Go to Options > Advanced Options > Service Books on your BlackBerry
    3) Delete ALL the service books that start with the word Desktop
    4) Install the Desktop Software and make sure you do NOT check the options for Domino or Exchange
    5) Connect your BlackBerry to the PC.

    The ETP Messages will stop.

If you see ETP messages and you're NOT using a BES, follow these instructions. If you are using a BES, give the device to your BES admin and ask him to perform a connected EA. If he doesn't know what it is, tell him to look in the manual.

Each time any of our employees do an enterprise activation they get that message in outlook and on their BB, and each of those times were successful. We just advise them to delete it.

Re: what do these emails mean?

That's fine if you get it once. It just means the device already had a Desktop [CMIME] Service Book when you did the EA. If you get it over and over when you're sending an email, you're a BIS customer and you've configured your device to talk to a BES so when it tries to contact the BlackBerry network, the network says "You're not allowed to do that" so the BB queues the message and tells you about it.

You get these messages when you try to activate blackberry enterprise server. If you do not have a BES then just delete them.

goobah, If you don't know what BES means, you probably are not using it. Did you set up your email using the Individual email Setup, or by logging in to a carrier Website and establish you email account? When you loaded Desktop manager, did you select the Enterprise option or the Personal/Internet option?

He also says he doesn't know what BIS is. Does that mean he's not using that either?

You get ETP messages when you set your device up to talk to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) when you don't have one to talk to. If you're able to receive emails but you're getting ETP messages, then you have BlackBerry Internet Service - Email (BIS-E) which isa method of sending and receiving mail from an account like yahoo, hotmail or GMail.

If you delete the Desktop [CMIME] service book, the messages will stop. If you do everything else I suggested they won't come back.

Re: what do these emails mean?

That's the message I get whenever I attempt activation with the company server ... its usually in the trash but it is there. Your device, if it is used, may be trying to activate with a former server.

    Take eatmypiano's advice.
