Question WAP Browser and Launch Icons

    Here is my sad tale:

I have a VZW 8330. I downloaded a few "launch icons" - CNN, ESPN, BofA Mobile Banking. They worked just fine, I was happy.

Then VZW released 4.5 for the 8330. I upgraded. These icons no longer worked. I downgraded back to 4.3, still no work. What happens is this - the browser launches (the one with "VerizonWireless" on a black background) and the connection simply times out.

I can browse directly to any of these sites using either "Internet Browser" or "Blackberry Browser"

I spent some time with VZW support when this happened on an 8830. I learned that when the "VerizonWireless" browser appears that is the WAP browser being invoked. For whatever reason though my Berry seems unable to translate (as it apparently supposed to do so) the launch icon instructions properly and open the default browser.

Troubleshooting that I have done (not necessarily in this order)
    1) Resent services books from VZW - both through "Register now" and from the BIS setup site

    2) Resent service books from the BES (I am the admin)

    3) Gave myself the Default IT policy although I ensured that the policy I did have didn't block WAP

4)Wiped the Berry and reloaded it

    5)Cleared cache and cookies

I've also googled and googled and seem to find no one else with this situation. What could I be doing wrong?

Have you just tried to delete the quick launchers and reinstall them?

@ the person looking for quick launchers. I think you want this.

Uh let's try that again. For some reason the links did not post right.

Try actually deleting your browser service books then re-send them via the BIS site and see if that helps. If that doesn't help then in permissions for the launchers try setting the "carrier internet" to deny and see if that helps.

Just throwing some ideas out there, let us know if you have any luck.

Certainly worth a try. To the earlier poster - yes I have deleted and re-downloaded the launchers.

Delete/resend service books didn't help. Question - in Options/Advanced options/Browser Config - how many settings do you (anyone) have?

Forgot to mention - the Pinstack Launcher works just fine so "well done" somebody.

In addition to the marvelous lists referenced - if you just browse to mobile.cnn.com there will be a link to the icon. Same for ESPN.

On my Alltel 8330 I only have Internet browser as a choice. Do you have a WAP service book? Try deleting it, don't resend your service books and see what happens when you try the launcher.

I have this service book "Wap Push (SMS)" do you think I should delete? No other service book that contains the word wap.
