True World BlackBerry - cdma & gsm umts

What I'd like to see is a true world-berry one that does cdma & gsm umts on all the bands. that's likely to be an rf engineering nightmare for a while though.

another thought is multi-sim / multi carrier so the berry is able to run on more than 1 network so my work contacts call out on the work number for work billing and the personal contacts are on the personal profile line.

Those should be a good challenge for them.

If it does GSM, there's no need for CDMA. Maybe RIM will sell unlocked BBs someday but i would not hold my breath for it. Carriers would not be happy.

Of course there is a need for a Cdma/GSM Blackberry, there are CDMA carriers out here, and CDMA Data technology is far superior to GSM.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~a true quad band unit they are out there from other manufactures. and then there's only one unit to develop and support...that would
    Make too much sense.
That said I won't hold my breath
As they can't even give us a real web browser that works
    Maby after someone develops one
Rim can try to copy it but look to verizon for world phones as they are over seas and have several handsets gsm/cdma

Any hints / rumors about any other models besides 87xx being UMTS enabled?

I have this blackberry to use in Japan, but hate the size - would much rather switch to a UMTS enabled unit the size of the pearl or the curve.

I agree that you should have something called a worldphone that doesn't work in the second biggest economy in the world.

Is CDMA really better than GSM. Because whenever I come home to Canada, I cant help but laught at how behind the mobile networks are, compared to other places.

    Any info I can find states;

    For GSM:
"Current HSDPA deployments support down-link speeds of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.4 Mbit/s. Further speed increases are planned for the near future. The networks are then to be upgraded to evolved HSPA, which provides speeds of 42 Mbit/s downlink in its first release."

    For CDMA EVDO:
"The EV-DO feature of CDMA2000 networks provides access to mobile devices with air interface speeds of up to 2.4 Mbit/s with Rev. 0 and up to 3.1 Mbit/s with Rev. A''
