Transferring Themes to Blackberry 8310
First post so be gentle. I just received a Blackberry 8310 through work, so want to 'customise it', I've seen on here that you can download themes people have created, but how do I actually get them on to my Blackberry.
I'm sure this is a simple straightforward thing to do, but I have no idea. So a quick note on the subject would be appreciated.
All you need to do is the following; 1) download the zipped theme you want, and extract the files- there will be two- .alx ( loading file) and .cod ( theme contents file) 2) hook your bb up to a pc with the usb cable, and start up Desktop Mgr. ( the disk that came with your phone, or you can download it at rim.com or blackberry.com 3) once dm starts up and finishes some preliminary steps on its own, click "Add applications" and browse to the files. It will only show the .alx file- don't worry- the .cod file is there as well. Click next, and it will load it. OR- on a pc, mail yourself the OTA link ( if the desired theme has one posted) and when highlited in you email on phone, push the menu button to the left of the trackball and select "get link". When the download page shows, download will be highlighted - click the trackball and after the download completes, exit out of your email. Go to options, scroll down to themes, and the new one should be in the list. Select it, and it will load.-Chris

You may need to restart your device after some installations...
Whenever you install a theme make sure it supports your blackberry and the OS on it...You can also search google for free themes for your blackberry...
You might wanna make sure your company's IT policy doesn't keep you from downloading 3rd party software first

i tried to do that.
I connect my phone open desktop manager, add applications and browse to the .alx file.
It said the applications is not compatible, so it failed.
I'm using a Curve 8310, running on 4.5 firmware.
I just got the blackberry yesterday, don't know alot about it yet
Remember the Theme must be made for your phone 83xx, 81xx etc plus the Theme target OS must also be for your phone ie: OS 4.5 or lower. If the Theme is for an OS higher than yours (4.5) it won't work.
Also remember Themes take up space so you are limited in how many Themes you can run on the phone at one time. Be sure to keep the number below 10 to be safe. Delete one to make room for any new ones if you have to.
1. Download the zip file to your PC:
2. Unzip the file to a folder (name the folder).
3. Connect your Blackberry to your computer.
4. Open up Desktop Manager –> Application Loader –> Add.
5. Find the file called “ThemeName.alx” and click “OK”.

ya, the theme said its for blackberry 83xx and when i tried to add it it said "this application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded"
The theme doesn't say for what software though.
What theme are you trying to load and what OS version do you have on your BB? If you can tell us the exact title of the thread we may be able to help more.
I tried to download elemental_zen, I'm using a curve 8310 on Rogers Network, running OS 4.5
I also tried the aqua, aqua_grey, and gun_skyline, all are.alx file, and none of them works
Have you tried downloading any themes OTA(over the air)? That elemental zen theme is almost 2 yrs old, may not work on newer OS version
i don't know how to do that
You click the link right from your blackberry browser or copy the link and email it to an email address linked to your blackberry and when you open the email click the link to install. Try this one http://www.bastian1967.com/bberry/vi...e_VistaPre.jad
The theme is found here if you want to see what it looks like: http://forums.pinstack.com/f150/vista_precision_today_83xx_os4_5_a-112488/
Hi, I tried a new theme called lush_.alx apparently it installed.
So i guess, the problem was the themes I tried to installed.
Anyways, thanks for all your advice.
I might ask more question in the future, since i'm a new user and pretty much blind about BB.
