Yes it does wear out. I wore one out on a refurb'ed 7105t in just 2 weeks.

I'm glad I got my curve before the track wheel wore out on my 8700c!!

Actually, I miss the track wheel. It was a very easy way of raising or lowering volume on calls. The up down buttons on the curve are a lot harder to use.

TWO WEEKS??!? Dang, Erica, do you use your BB to tenderize meat or something?

It just FEELS like something that will wear out. Like the click click click feeling will eventually wear out gear teeth or something. I will simply treat it with respect and Honor Its Presence so that it will continue to serve me well.

mine stopped clicking on my 7100g (i bought it used, so really no way to tell how long it had been used) but i had it for about 6 months before this happened...

sent it to the bb hospital for some orthopedic trackwheel surgery and she came back better than before

With care, honestly, I don't think it will be an issue. I buy and sell all sorts of cell phones on Ebay, and on used handhelds the BB trackwheel is very, very rarely a problem. On Hiptop handhelds, especially older models (SideKick I, II, etc.) it is extremely common for the trackwheel to be broken or worn out. But generally it's not been an issue on used BlackBerrys, unless you're like Erica and use it to tenderize meat. (LOL)

Not really. There was a thread here about a huge problem with 8700g trackwheels.

Missed the thread. But my son has my old 8700g, and one thing I do know is that it feels sort of plastic and cheap, especially compared to my current 7105, so to hear about problems with it's trackwheel doesn't surprise me. 8700 feels more like a toy, although it is true-blue BlackBerry.

    Re: Track wheels

Sorry to say, but they do start bugging out. It happened on my 7100i.
When I tried to move icon highlighter on the screen with the track wheel
it would jump all around the screen, took me a few times to get it on the
right icon. What a pain in the butt.. .. So I had to get my bb replaced.
Needed to get a replacement 8330 Curve again, so I got a New pin and it's in my profile... Got 8330m now!
