Looks like I got it working, and I can now generate engineering screen unlock codes without poking RIM's system. I don't know what the 4 durations are, but I guess I can experiment.

HotCelica and RSCStacker: I'll need a full platform number, including the number in the parentheses like: 4.5.0.110 (152)

You just type it in the "Help Me!" screen where you see App Version/Pin/Uptime. The code depends on the Uptime that is there when you open that window up. If you close that window, the code to get into the Engineering Screen will change.

You can use the End button to return to the ribbon without closing that screen, then return to it via the Switch Application option.

how close are you to making this into a distributable app?

i would love this as it gives much more detailed info and functionality...

the other day myspace was freezing up my phone and since i still have access to these screens, i was able to go in and kill the process

as soon as my access runs out ill get you my info if it will help further research

The program I wrote last night is just a short 80 line Java program that takes the app version, PIN, uptime data, then generates the 4 possible codes in the same way as the BlackBerry does (SHA1-HMAC). All 4 of the codes work properly and activate the engineering screen.

The only thing I have left to figure out is how long each of the codes last. The first code that I entered (type #2) lasted 20 hours before I changed the device clock to a month from now. It would probably be easiest to trace execution in my disassembled version of the escreen COD than it would be to experiment blindly.

I think it would be best to have a stand-alone app enter the shortest duration code, so the original help screen can still be accessed. I'll need to purchase a signing key from RIM so I can use the keystroke injection API on production devices as well.

In the mean time, I'll offer free eScreen unlock codes to people that PM me (though I may be a few hours between the PM and reply).

    Here you are:

    Unlock code [>38 hrs]: 75b2596b
    Unlock code [48 hrs(?)]: 44119d33
    Unlock code [UNKNOWN]: 4d24084f
    Unlock code [UNKNOWN]: 961c3bf2

I'm still working out how long those codes last, and refining my COD dissection system.
