It is 3G, the phone is a World Edition. There should be a SIM slot and it is still locked to Verizon. You have to call Verizon and request the SIM for that phone. What this will do is allow you to roam internationally and use the phone in GSM mode. Unfortunately, you are still tied to Verizon's SIM and you have to pay huge roaming fees. But, you will have 3G and you can talk and email, surf the web etc at the same time. Only Canada and the States have outdated CDMA technology still deployed. The rest of the planet is GSM. Actually if you are in Canada, I wonder if you will pick up on Bellus or Rogers if the SIM is installed? |

They are, but its different from GSM 3G (at&t and 99% of other carriers around the world) Verizon and sprints 3G does not have actual 3G capabilities such as voice and data at the same time, and the network is not as fast as GSM 3G. Verizon may advertise it as being the best; maybe it does have better coverage than at&t, but technically it is a proven fact that it is not better than GSM 3G (at&t). |

when verizon says 3G they are simply referring to the third generation of their network type. which is fast, but does not allow simultaneous voice and data lte will supposedly be the 4G standard that will replace GSM and CDMA |

Exactly, which is kind of stupid considering that Verizon, telus etc. never mentioned 3G until at&t/ Rogers upgraded their networks to GSM 3G. All the CDMA carriers used to advertise; EVDO, 1X, 1XEV and so on. Now they have hopped on the 3G band wagon and are confusing people because the 2 networks are completely different, but they make poeple think it is the same. The networks have different features and their maximum data speed is different. Joe blow sees telus and verizons ads and thinks its all the same. |
