    Speed Differences

I currently have the Blackberry 7290, although I love it since its my first blackberry ever, I am not at all impressed by the speed of web browsing. I was just wondering if I switched to a Blackberry Pearl or 8800, would my web browsing speed up? Is the speed dependant on the carrier (I have Rogers in Canada).

I thought that the browsing speed was the same for all blackberry devices. Am I wrong?

    Re: Speed Differences

Speed depends on several things: your carrier, your connection, the BB processor, available memory, distance to the tower, congestion at the tower and a couple other factors. Also voice has priority at the tower.

I seriously doubt if you will notice much difference between BBs or like carriers. GSM/EDGE averages 50-90 kbps with a max of 236 kbps or about 300 kbps on the upgraded towers. GSM 3G has a max rate of about 3 mbps currently. CDMA/EVDO averages 400-800 kbps up to a max of 3.1 mbps with RevA.

Given that, email will arrive at about the same speed as it does now. Not much you can do since it is PUSH. You might notice a bit of a spped increase in browsing, but it won't be much to write home about.

If you have a GSM carrier, upgrading your bb will improve speed. The 7290 is gprs only and recent bb are edge enabled. That's 3 to 5 times faster than gprs, depending on carriers.

Like indicated above, if you upgrade to an 8800 or a Pearl, you should be much happier with the browsing speed.
