Ubuntu is gaining momentum in the home pc world. Right now we can order three different DELL systems with Ubuntu v7 pre-installed.

it would be nice to have some support with that OS.

    thanks

PS. if you are really are listening, get rid of that silly EMERGENCY CALL feature.. LOL

lol@paulypal, I agree, and Ubuntu (debian based) platform is BEAUTIFUL, Kubuntu doesn't have it's performace or applications that even cross what Ubuntu does. Gnoke is a great desktop and works excellent, and having a linux OS on a blackberry would be an excellent choice of an OS.

Emergency call does need to go

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I used the emergency call feature once. I was driving and witnessed an accident, and it was faster to do that than inlock my BB and fumble with dialing.

because dialing 9-1-1 is so hard ???

sorry, I just find it to be a completely rubish feature.

Are you talking about the emergency call feature when the keyboard is locked? This is required by U. S. Law and I believe other countries for all cell phones now. How do you suggest RIM complies with the law?

I wish there was support for GNU/Linux from RIM as well.

No, dialing 911 is not difficult, however, our IT policy requires 6 characters for the unlock code. It is easier to do the emergency call than unlock my BB and create a new call.

Can you show me a source on this LAW? I would like to read it.

Regardless whether its law or not(although I have read in the past that it is), if you don't need it, don't use it. I know if my family were in need of life or death services I'll be damned if I want to unlock my phone with my 6 digit password then dial 911 just because someone finds it inconvenient. Sorry to be coarse, but some things in life are slightly more important than an exceptionally minor (even though its never slowed me down for even a nanosecond. perhaps others find it slows them down for seconds a year, don't know) inconvenience. But I'm sure I'm in the minority.

I agree, even tho I don't usually lock my keyboard, I actually find the emergency call convenient if I was in an emergency. Otherwise just don't use it. Also what if your phone is locked and you are incapacitated and someone else needs to use your phone to call 911. They can still do it despite the pas lock. Although unlikely in this day and when everyone has phones, the possible benefit of the feature outweighs the small annoyance people get when its there. But any way, to stay on topic, some support for linux would be pretty nice.

I believe it is part of the wireless 911 act of 1999, but I'm not positive. I do know that Law requires all wireless carriers to a connect an emergency (e911) call from any cell phone connecting to their network even though it is not activated on their network.

Yea, that emergency button is a must. I could only imagining keying in a password then dialing 911. Wow what if you get a hourglass after you unlock it. Its just to much work! Yay emergency dial, yay for more support for bb. I don't even use bb support for any of my situations in the past. Pinstack has always been there. Btw thanks again stackers

One thing that's forgotten about with the emergency call feature is that it's far too easy to accidently dial the emergency services when not intending to. My friend works at a 911 call center in Canada and he gets about 1 call per hour because of that "feature".
