Like I said in a previous post, I have made a two inch multi colored pyrex marble and used it on pavement like a rubber bouncey ball. Not only would it bounce back into my hand, it never even had a crack. Now I'm not saying it wouldn't break, shatter, or crack....mine just didn't. I should maybe make a video of this to demonstrate the strength and hardness of glass pyrex.

I think a 5.5mm glass pyrex marble would not even break if you through it with all your might at a paved floor, let alone if you had it in your blackberry and just dropped it from a few feet. Your blackberry would break before the marble. This is not a guarantee because glass can and will break...it just depends on the glass, the shape, and the situation.

I am about to drive to my glass lab now to start the experimenting. wish me luck!
I want to see that GLASS BOUNCING video when you make it. I've purchased a few Borosilicate marbles at craft fairs. What do you charge for a 2in diameter one?

I have a few prototypes made. I'll post some pics in a little bit. I have a caliper on order so that I can make them exactly 5.5mm in outer diameter (if this is the correct exact size). I will try and eyeball one in the mean time. I went to school for scientific glass blowing back in 1994, so I have the proper training to make glass sized to whatever specs are needed. I will also aneal these in my kiln to 'set' the glass properly.

Can some one please post me a link to instructions for removing the trackball? Maybe a video link?

    LatinLagacy and lexo-

Are you guys glass blowers? will you be making these balls by melting and shaping the glass?

I would love to see your examples!

Icaro. I know there is a very good pictorial tutor on how to disassemble the trackball completely on this site. I can't search and post the link from my berry but if you search for trackball cleaning I am sure that it should come up. Been following this thread quietly for the past few days and am very intrigued. Good luck with it. Regards cHAd ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

    cool! thanks thechadj.
I'm gonna check it out in a minute...

I am about to upload some pics of a few prototypes. They are of varying size. I have yet to remove my stock scroll ball, so I had nothing to use as a model for size comparison. These were all done by hand, and they were eyeballed for size. Like I said before, I need a caliper to measure these to the exact size of 5.5mm. I have one on order and it should be here this week. Until then I will try and get one to fit by estimation. THIS WILL WORK.

the pics I am about to post are not installed, but they are to give you an idea of the possibilities. There will be a huge variety of colors and color combinations available. (As well as unique designs.) I placed a few marbles on top of lit up pearl 8120 to demonstrate the illuminated effect.

Give me a few minutes t upload the pics...
