My friend was wondering if the emails being forwared from a 3rd party email is being charged as messages or data. And also if replying is using messaging or data? I wasn't sure myself

mine uses data. But then again i have att and i dunno what you're working with nor do i know what kinda service your friend has. However; if he has unlimitted data and messages he has nothing to worry about. But if he has one of those crappy service plans where they charge for even touching your phone then i'd say he's screwed.

messaging is just that. Emails on the other hand go hand in hand with your data plan.

All email is data. If he is forwarding as SMS, then that is charged as TMs.
