This is what is sad. With everything we have today if somebody is using that phone it could be tracked. It just the carrier and the police seem to have so many better things to do the go after crooks. Mine would be tracked by police if stolen but not too many would be

Think about it, yes carriers are driven on profit that they get from rate plans, well they also get profit from handset sales. Yes they are smaller profits on handsets but still a profit none the less. There fore if they are activating unlocked GSM phones then they are not selling enough of their OWN handsets, hence the IMEI blocking list.
Rogers is involved in IMEI blocking -- however again you guys ONLY do it to protect in-store losses. Once a mobile has been sold the only thing that will be done via the Rogers Lost & Stolen # is nuke the SIM card.

Here is the details which currently apply:

What do I tell a customer if their handset was stolen, and they want it on the EIR list?
o Customers who have their phones stolen should contact Rogers to have their SIM card blocked immediately. At this point, the EIR is not able to track and block the IMEI of customers’ handsets but it is an important first step in solving the many issues of theft. Customer inclusion is something we are looking at for a phase two development. We have no further details to announce at this time.

Well I try not to get too attached to material things. Except of course for my replacement to the stolen 8310 -- my Blackberry Bold.

Never realized how restrictive my 8310 was until I upgraded!!
