    Pedometer

if you wear your BB on your belt all day it would be cool to know how many steps you make in a day.
and if you have a Data plan w/ GPS you could track you distance and steps taken.

    IMO

I agree a good idea. This is another way for RIM to make their products more consumer focused. One negative with pedometers is that they seem to wear out quickly. The most usage I have ever gotten with one is about a year. Just my experience, but I bet if RIM were to add this feature they would make one that lasts.

Since a pedometer is time over distance this can be easily integrated into the 8800 GPS. Assuming you travel in a straight line, then its just the distance between two GPS locations divided by the elapsed time. Adding succesive results together could track your distance for any time period. So RIM doesn't need to do anything (except integrate GPS in more units), we just need a clever developer out there to write an app.

right, but a pedometer actually counts your paces.

nice if you don't have a data plan

Good idea but maybe for it to really work is maybe have it turn on when it gets holstered. How would it know when you are just picking up or putting down the phone or it just moving it around say like in a pocket? Pedometers usually just go on a belt and stay there.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I like the time over distance model- I could turn it on and drive across town and back and brag about how far my morning jog was! : )

    Re: Pedometer

Ok but then that would leave me enough battery life for 3 texts, a quick myspace check, and a 10 second call to tell my boss im coming in late... Leaving the gps on drains the battery!!!!!!!!!! Soooo nay.....~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

    Re: Pedometer

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~course its gonna drain battery but what itd do would be worth it. You should be able to log how far you've travelled and be able to send it to a website a bit like the Nike+ with iPod. A bit like a jogging social network or something..

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~because knowing how many steps uve taken is SOOO much better than actually being able to use your 8800 throughout the day............................................... ...........................

Well, this is another "nice to have" in the effort to consolidate electronic devices. Don't want like 20 things hanging on my belt. Vote Yes for pedometer!
