trigga, were you happy with the size of the 7290? If so, I'd go for the 8700. Or you could crack on with the 7290 until the gamma ray comes out. The pearl may be cool, but....SureType and that non-querty keyboard? Nah!

If you like the suretype, I'd recommend the pearl, this thing is HOT!

Yea, both are really good BB's and offer alot to the user.... Pearl does have the camera and expandable memory but the keyboard is Suretype. I think you need to go play with both at a store and see which feels good to you..... Oh Pearl has Video too..... Tough choice for many. I however own a 8700 already and wont give up a qwerty keyboard. lol

It's personal preference. I'm waiting for the 8800.

I think he is trying to get me to post which I don't like the most and then trying to convince me to sell him the other one...Hahahahaha...I'll even knock of shipping and handling charges for ya!

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~fwiw I was really afraid of suretype but its a lot more friendly than I thought and easy w/one hand. I abandoned that brick 8700 after one day with the Pearl --wasnt using the phone on it anyway. The 8100 will satisfy 3 devicesager, phone, and of course mobile email. The 8700 is a great device but I was getting so bogged down w/email. Now I have an excuse to be brief w/email but I can read all of them and be selective. With that qwerty you want to answer them all on the spot.

Get the 8700 - no questions asked! But, if you insist on getting something to take photos, then get a camera, Kodak or something - LOL

I recommend the 8100 to the fullest. All the features of any other blackberry, plus more, and smaller! I also agree with drjman, the suretype is not as bad as you would think....get a 8100

I think the more important difference in the two phones is not the keyboard difference, but the different Layout of the Display Portrait vs Landscape. I am used to the landscape layout used on almost every other video display device, and wonder if I could get used to the vertical Landscape Layout.

    Re: pearl or 8700?

I have the pearl, i did loooked at the 8700 but i was after the size. i can keep my pearl on my front shirt pocket. i liked the keyboard layout of the 8700 since i was a treo user it would be easier for me. But the trackwheel i wasnt sure of. Both phones has pros and cons, its blackberry so both should have awesome capabilities.

xtasyboi, Don't bend over too far to flush.

Shirt Pockets are not the best place to carry electronic devices, although that's where I carry my Company PDA, which is actually larger than my 8700. It has fallen out more times than I like to admit and now it is a reflex to put my hand on it anytime I bend over to pick something up.

As to the Trackwheel, it falls perfectly under the thumb when holding the BB as a phone or for browsing, and under the Forefinger when thumb typing.

Trackwheels are anti-leftie propganda. Long live the trackball! (Yeah, I'm left-handed, and hate dealing with trackwheels)
