That is really strange. I wonder where they are getting this idea.

So, There's an "Offical" 4.5 OS out there but it's only for partner? Is that correct?

It's in the May issue...page 81 under "RIM Blackberry OS" and it says, "Just as we went to press, Research In Motion released Blackberry OS 4.5, which adds a slew of features..." At the end, it says, "To get the free update, head over to www.discoverblackberry.com/software and grab a copy." I couldn't find any reference to it at that link.

Was having my weekly meltdown with Blackberry support at T-Mobile today, and asked the rep several times if she knew if the OS upgrade would fix my issues - she acted oblivious to the fact that there was a new upgrade coming. Granted she was in the HotSpot @ Home group, and I knew she couldn't help me... Still, you would think everyone using a Blackberry at T-Mobile (she is) would be peeing in their pants over this software release.

Is it possible for someone not to know about this?

Magazines frequently claim that new operating systems are available, long before they actually are...

Pocket PC Magazine (the leading source on everything relating to Microsoft: Windows Mobile) has on a number ocasions over the years claimed that the "new" version of Windows Mobile is available anywhere up to three months before it actually is, and up to six months before devices with the new operating system start to appear (depending on where in the world you may live)!

There could be a variety of reasons for this:
    * Confusion over the official announcement and release dates, as well as the date the new operating system is available to manufacturers and consumers
    * Release dates may be pushed-back after the magazine was published
    * Delays/time differences between when a magazine is released, and when the new operating system is actually made available - this is particularly true with quarterly magazines like Pocket PC Magazine, which may announce a new operating system as being "available" under the expectation that it "will be available at some point in the next three months", before the new magazine issue is due to be released
    * Early announcement often builds excitment and helps with initial sales of devices featuring the new operating system (strong initial sales ALWAYS look good for a company releasing a new product!)
    * Users considering alternative operating systems and devices may "stick around" if they know improvements/new features are just around the corner
