noob question / considering buying a blackberry but is the internet

browser on a blackberry, comparable to say, ie6? In other words, I'd like the capacity to access any website I like. Is the blackberry capable of doing so, or are there alternatives that would? Would there be software that would enable me to do so?

    Thanks alot,

    Will

Hey Will. First off i want to say welcome to Pinstack. As far as the browser goes. the BB browser is pretty good. Many people also use a browser called Opera Mini. OM lays sites out a little different sometimes than the bb browser. OM is a free download so you cant go wrong with it really.

Will - between Opera (for some Bank sites and myspace) and the BB Browser, the whole web is yours.

I'd recommend really testing out the web browser as soon as you get the BB from your carrier while you can still choose to return it should the BB browser and/or Opera Mini not work out for your needs.

The only problem with that is that I signed up for Verizon only about four months ago, not even, and any devices that I get now will be astronomical in terms of price. I was thinking of ebay actually.

You can't access Flash pages on the BB browser or any 3rd party browsers, though. Most good websites have alternative html though.

I'm not holding my breath on the iPhone. Yeah, the browser might be great, but I'd get really frustrated with it surfing at those good old EDGE speeds, after having experienced EVDO. What in the world is Apple thinking, not including 3G wireless?

Re: noob question / considering buying a blackberry but is the internet

I've read that the sidekick from TMobile provides a 'real' web browsing experience, akin to your desktop. I'm not sure what technology this employs, but with the BB, it's either their homegrown browser which I hear mixed reviews of, or Opera Mini which I've test driven on Opera's site, and it still waters down the internet a bit. I have yet to see the internet displayed on a sidekick, but I'm told the format is the same, what you see now, would be what is displayed on their screen. Viewpoints on this/experience?

Thanks for keeping this thread alive...
